I only ask because I don't fully understand what injector leak back is. :-)
Hi John, yes that's just about right.

What you are seeing with the fuelling compensation figures in the live data screen of T4, is the adjustments the ECM is making to the individual injectors to keep the engine running smoothly.

You normally find an injector which is performing poorly having slightly more fuel injected and it's counterpart leaned off slightly.

T4 itself cannot actually detect "leakback" but the figures as presented give the operator a clue as to where a problem may be brewing in the background.

What I'm suggesting costs much less and is far easier than replacing injectors

I have seen many cars improved using this method, so have a bash, you may be pleasantly surprised

Actually, mine just failed its first MOT of 6 it's had in my ownership - and that was only a track rod end.

Cheers Brian for explaining this to me.. I have bought some Forte injector cleaner from my local car accessory shop ( quite surprised they stocked it ) and will do exactly what you have suggested this weekend.
Many thanks
Johnny

Hi just a quick update as I hate leaving threads unfinished..
Last night I did exactly what Brian suggested. This morning I started up my car and went on my merry way. After a good 30 mile blast down the quiet early morning roads I started to notice the engine " tone " change ever so slightly. To begin with I just thought it was the old placebo effect but a few more miles the engine just got sweeter and sweeter. The old girl was sounding more refined and less agricultural. Whilst stationary and the auto box in drive position the engine was ticking over nice and smoothly as before it was always lumpy.
This afternoon I had the shock of my life. I had to put my foot right down to avoid the usual onslaught of suicidal drivers and my tyres started wheel spinning and screeching in distress much to my embarrassment . I have never known my tyres to let go in such a fashion before in all the time I've owned the car.
I recommend to everybody here to treat there car to a bottle of Forte injector cleaner. It seems to have turned mine into a different beast. Smoother , more refined, and a lot more livelier For a paltry £15 a bottle its well worth doing. Many thanks to you Brian for helping me out on this.
Another happy customer.
Johnny

Is this possible even for the terminally ham-fisted (without getting the line full of air, breaking the filter housing and/or pipes, and getting a faceful of diesel)?

Nice one john, good to hear the beast is roaring, now all you need to do is bin the tuning box before you need a new HP pump, I think Brian will agree

Its dead easy Hogweed. Once you replace the fuel filter just turn the key the aux position so that you hear the under bonnet pump working. This will prime the system up and chase all the air out the system. The fuel with its pockets of air will just get pushed back to the fuel tank because the engines not running.
I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack when it comes to hands on work so if I can do it, rest assured you can as well.

Hiya Freddie.
I binned that horrible thing early last year and got it remapped. The best decision I've ever made with this car.

In answer to the OP's question, treat yourself to a bottle of Forte injector treatment, unscrew the fuel filter empty the contents and chuck the entire contents of the bottle of Forte into the filter.

Screw it back into place, turn the ignition to position 2 for 20 seconds, turn off then repeat.

Now start the car and allow the engine to idle for around 45 seconds and switch off.

Leave the car overnight, then go and give it a good hard motorway run.

I bet your injector compensation figures will look a lot more healthy afterwards
