Finally - Redundant
Those of you who know me will know I have Worked for Carillion for over 15yrs.
In one particular period I was put on notice of redundancy 8 times in 7 years, usually in December. Slowly but surely they chipped away at everyone in our department until there was only me left. I was originally a one of over 100 surveyors. I then offered the role of National Field Service Manager. Covering the asset registers of the whole of the country and I can tell you it was certainly a mess when we took control of it from local offices/schools/ police stations/hospitals/courts some 18 months ago. We have been working regular 60 to 70 hour weeks and I know the Premier Inn menu backwards. Then just as we got a grip on the teams on site the company went into liquidation on 15th Jan 18. We had to attend conference calls daily at first to see if we still had a job the following day. Some people worked from the 15th to the 30th of Jan only to get a letter on the 30th telling them they were made redundant on the 16th. Some people received phone calls at 4:30pm telling them to clear their desks they were redundant at 5:00pm Then it went to weekly. My department were told that as we oversee the whole of the country Asset register that the many contracts would be split up into smaller groups and sold off so there would be no need for our team. We accepted this and just waited for our leaving date,. Everything then went quiet for a week or two. A fresh announcement informed everyone that a Canadian company had successfully negotiated the purchase of the majority of the contracts and therefore the overseeing quality control (my team) would be needed. On Monday we were quietly informed the deal had fallen through and we would be made redundant on Thursday 15th. I accept that these things happen, what makes me and my team bitter is the callous way the liquidators have withheld information and played with peoples heads. I am mentally drained and stress levels have recently been through the roof. I am truly glad it is all over. First time in my life since i was 15 over 45 yr ago I have no job. So, thankyou to the four directors who saw fit only last year to pay themselves massive bonuses for doing such a good job and luckily sold all their shares just before they crashed. Dave (possibly retired )

Dave that's truly awful , I remember your annual posts about redundancy when you were left hanging on a string each year and then told you would be kept on, plus you have not been well in the recent past and now this !
It won't be the first or last time directors can get away with cutting and running and getting away with paying themselves large bonuses with no apparent consequences, as for receivers they will be the first paid out of the pot.

Sorry to hear that, the whole Carillon mess was, and still is, a disgrace. The company I worked for, ISS, was part of the Carillion military base and housing grounds maintenance contract. The Carillon "organization" lost ISS so much money, that we lost our own local authority contract (luckily we tupe'd over to new contractors) as we were bailing out the Carillon side, and ISS have now sold up the whole landscaping side of their business as they've had enough.
Unfortunately, this seems to be a gift that will keep on giving as other contractors and sub contractors struggle to deal with the aftermath of this debacle. As you say, the orchestrators seem to have done rather well out of it. Everyone else though....... Good luck, hopefully something will turn up

Early retirement beckons, Dave. If you ask Marina nicely she'll compile a list of jobs she wants doing.

That's horrible Dave. I know I don't have enough to retire on yet and would be up the creek without a job.
All I can suggest is get down to citizens advice and see what you can claim. Odd jobs can bring in a few extra quid too

As with the banks, the rich look after the rich by doing nothing about their theft of money, yes theft. ‘‘Twas always the same ,and until the little people get together and do something about it, twill remain the same. Sorry to hear about your redundancy Dave. If you can, put your feet up and add up what you have got with regards to filthy lucre, and if like me you are not an excessively money spender, you have your retirement and enjoy yourself mate. I packed up at 62 and have never looked back, and to be honest after 16 years, we have not had to pull our horns yet. Good luck.
