Default MAF Related Issue

Hi,

I fitted a synergy 2 to my 135 and was more than happy with the results.

Eventually I found myself having to set the MAF compensator on maximum and in the end even this did not cure the lack of torque at low revs (it felt like a petrol car does when it retards rather than advances, would not pull from low down, always having to change down a gear - so the usual poor MAF symptoms).
So the next logical step was to replace the MAF for a Pierburgh replacement which I did but this did not cure the problem. The intank pump was also replaced 2 weeks ago and the the under bonnet one is humming along quite happliy.
I disconneted the MAF last night and the car came back to life again, smooth and responsive.
Could I have made a mistake with the connectors when fitting the MAF? I doubt the cause is the product itself, more than likely it's the fitter...

Any help appreciated

Justin

The Pierburg MAF's are generally extremely reliable,
the Bosch ones and EBay specials another story.
If you had connected up the Synergy and MAF at the same time
then the possibility of wrong connection could have occurred, but not on top of MAF plug IMHO.

I have just reread your post and now think its not you that fitted it?
Give your Supplier of MAF a ring first, If its Ron there will be no problem.

Did you remember also to turn the Synergy down for MAF compensation again after fitting new one?
It must be turned on to work though unlike the Bosch ones.

Hi John,

The MAF is fitted (it came from Ron), but this was after the synergy had been done.

Is it possible to have put in the MAF in the wrong way round?

- both parts of the synergy were switched on and tested on positions 5 & 6.

Don't think it's possible to fit the Maf the wrong way round, because the screw holes are offset.

I would double check the connections to the maf and also the one that goes to the original maf lead, it's easy to get one the wrong way round.

It's also possible for one of the contacts to not engage properly in the opposing plug, look for a contact thats out of line or bent in the plugs from the Synergy. The plug can appear to go on normally but one contact can ride over the opposing socket, and hey presto, non working maf.

I hope one day Ron will source the proper connectors obviously that will increase unit cost but it would probably be a popular option

Unfortunately his diy ones are not that clever and are not water proof which in my case caused an incredible loss of go one morning but on the positive side it does for a cheap synergy make

I have seen quite a few cars with them around the wrong way either people do not understand the instruction or the connectors simply are not identified well enough for some! It is also very easy to not even plug it in at all!

The downside with the PB maf is you must use a mafam or synergy with it otherwise I would simply say disconnect the tuning box and try the car in standard form

There is another possibilty perhaps the Synergy is broken Ron will almost certainly check it over for you without question.
