Default Cdti loss of power below 2000 rpm

Hi , I've tried the google search but not working so was wondering if someone could help , 2003 mg zt cdti , drives fine with no smoke but seems to lack power below 2000rpm and if in 4th on a very slight incline, revs at about 1500rpm seems to judder.change to 3rd and it is hesitant back to 2000rpm and then takes off.
Like I said tried the search but Say's something like permission not granted
Thanks in advance
Stan

Unplug MAF sensor and see if it drives better.

Your MAF sensor might be on its last legs, unplug it and go for a spin if improved, then need to change sensor.

All the diesels are fairly gutless below approx 2000 revs

Until the turbo spools up there isn't a huge amount of grunt low down on the rev range

Has it suddenly started doing this or has it been like that all along?

The Maf can have an effect as can a hole in the intercooler or pipework.

I think its been gradually getting worse , there is a large hill near me and the last few times I have thought it was low on power but not sure, but today it was worse with the juddering on a slight incline, feels a bit like a misfire, but as soon as you change down and press the pedal it clears and off we go , if you don't change down ,it's very sluggish, worse than normal.
I thought it might be the maf and will try it unplugged on Sunday on the hill and see.
I know there has been a lot written about inferior mafs so will it hurt unplugged until I can get a decent one?

It won't harm to unplug the maf, the ecu then uses a back up value which overfuells the car slightly but that's about it. It does take the edge off the performance slightly compared with a good maf but it's far better option than running with one that's totally shot

Agree with the sentiments here...

Below 2000 they are a little gutless, sometimes depends whether its on the boil or not so to speak. Occasionally Im surprised at 1800 rpm with the pull, but mainly left disappointed.

As said above, if you disconnect the MAF and it goes better, you've got the answer.

Is the MAF failing a function of it's age in years, or the number of miles travelled, or something else ?
