Good result - some of these tasks do need a bit of persistence. But cheaper than your estimate of £140-£180 - and if it should happen again....

Just wanted to say thanks
Having a walk through with pictures meant I felt a lot less anxious about trying to fix my changer. Actually didn't find any obvious fault except that the large toothed wheel that drives the lever that pulls in the disc was not moving. A gentle nudge with a finger and away it went. It stuck again a little later but helping it along worked again and this time it worked a few more times. After simply doing this several times it now seems to work reliably.
My conclusion is that the changer had not been used for some time and that the lubrication simply needed to be spread about a bit (I've just bought the car from a dealer). As it is now working I'll probably leave well alone but it would be nice to know what kind of lubricant would be recommended and where to get it. Anyone know? |

Followed this "how to" today as my changer wasn't working, and I'm pleased to say it works a treat and I've been reunited with Oasis's Masterplan. Desperately needed the cd changer to work as my radio reception is garbage.......

Thanks CD now working
Thanks for excellent pictures and going through step by step what to do.
I tried knocking side before dismantling but no success. I did have quite a job taking case off but kept referring back to your instuctions. With case off I tried moving all gearwheels and all seemed to be free. I tried in car footwell ( without case) but still not working. I could see parts moving but wasnt sure if white arrowed gear was turning, so I just touched it and it started whirring at a fast speed and everything worked. Putting case back was easier than expected. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for excellent advice. David |

Thanks for the great information.
Mine seemed to show the error message every time my wife was in the car! She was convinced it never worked. Usually ejecting/ replacing the disc holder cured it(if I was on my own that is), but since the last time it happened it has shown the error message however many times I eject/replace. After following the advice all seems to work fine - just got to check it with my Wife in the car to make sure. |

Multichanger problem
Has ANYONE experience of removing a multichanger from the REAR boot of an MG ZT 190 to lubricate/free off the cogs please?

When these jam (if thats your problem)it's usualy because there are two discs trying to load at the same time. It's easy to remove undo the two nuts and unplug it stand it on end with the cartidge downwards and gently tap it & the discs usualy drops back into place.. Hope this helps Ian
