I found myself in Bilbao, Spain earlier this week.
I knew my hotel was near a river so decided to order myself a 1000nd filter.
Here's a few pictures....
(I've not even gone through all my Ghent photo's, but couldn't resist seeing how my photo's from Spain turned out.....)

These two were taken at night, so didn't need any filter.

Thanks Phil.
It was only a few days with work so thought I'd make the most of it whilst I was there.

Another one from Spain.
This was taken using my new ND1000 filter.
I've darkened the highlights in the sky and lightened them in the river.
Please, what do you think?

Default Advice needed!

We went to a barbecue last night and I took some pics of my dogs. I caught this one of my Greyhound.

His eyes have come out like traffic lights!
I've tried to adjust it but it just ends up looking fake.
Any tips from the experts?

Hope you don't mind Phil but here is a quick edit of the eyes using Lightroom.

Use the Pet eye selection to add the black and pop in a catchlight then I cloned out the white highlights in Photoshop using the clone stamp tool but can easily be done in Lightroom as well.

Would be better still to get yourself an external flash gun (if you haven't already) and use that instead of the pop up flash. It should be less prone to red eye because the flash is further away from the lens but you can always tilt it away from the subject as well or bounce it indirectly back on to the subject

Thanks Jeff! There's a red eye function in photoshop elements but I didn't like the result.
I do have an external flash, I didn't really think it would make any difference, but now I know I'll try again.

I went to Scotland last week, on the way back I stopped in a country hotel and as there was minimal light pollution I tried my hand at some star photography..

Stars in the sky, Morda. Oswestry. England by Philip Davies, on Flickr

For those with experience, the haze to the left, is that likely cloud, or more unlikely, have I managed to take a photo of some far away galaxy?!

Thank you very much! You have to guess the focus so there's lots of trial and error involved.
The images I took were incredibly noisy as I had to use maximum ISO to get a short enough shutter speed.

Have you ever tried star photography?
