Its normally a lot cheaper when booking the ticket online the day before.

I haven't paid for a train ticket for many years! Started with BR back in 1980, free travel and because I did more than 25 years when I retired I retain free travel for life. Don't use it all that often though, travelling by train bores the ar*e off me!

I'm the same. Started in 1971 and retired(early) in 2006 with 21 days 1st class travel per year for life. Hardly ever use them ,though.
