Unhappy What do i do.....

After work i went to pick my car up from the test station to find it's ****** failed!

She failed on....

nearside and offside headlamp aim to high
nearside and offside break pipes excessively corroded
rear exhaust system leaking and excessively corroded
parking break has no reserve travel
nearside and offside rear pads wearing thin.

Well i have 2 choices realy, put it all right and then sell it loosing quite alot of money or send it to the crusher. At the moment i quite like the sound of option number 2.

There is considerable value in the car as spares. Contact Les SMCtrading or Messenger, either may be interested. Do not just scrap the car that would be sacrilege

thats really not that bad, the headlamps are easily adjusted, and as for the brake pipes these are easily remade, or rubbed with a wire brush and undersealed and as for the exhaust, if you are strapped for cash find a mate with a welder and get him to weld it temporarily, my mot guy told me you can do whatever you like to an exhaust so long as it does not blow and passes the emissions the excessively corroded bit is normally given as an advisory , the handbrake by the sounds of it needs new shoes and are easily replaced at the same time as the pads which is not a hard job

Only difficult job there is the brake pipes.

Unless there's something badly wrong elsewhere, why not just fix it?

Nothing too bad on that list, all cheap enough and easy to sort out I'd imagine.

Don't give up on an awesome car just because it's starting to need a little TLC.

Could be a hell of a lot worse than that.

I know what the problem is.

The problem is Rob has a new love in his life...... a Jag. And now his 75 is to be sold.

Thats the problem i've got realy, if i was going to keep the car it would be cheaper to fix her up, but as i'm wanting to sell say the cars worth £1500 and i's going to cost say £500 to fix and then theres the cost of another mot and tax i'm not going to get alot back. Thats why the option of breaking her came to mind as sad as it is.

Jags are wonderful, wonderful things when you don't own one. They'll break your heart and destroy your wallet when you do, though.

Took a friend to see an absolutely mint X300 a couple of weeks ago, the owner then asked me if my car was for sale, as he wanted (his words!) "Something nicer after the Jag".

(Said friend also subsequently bought a 75 )

Why not sell it as a 'going concern' then. The price you wanted, minus the cost of getting things fixed.

Incidentally, I'd replace the pipes. Mine only had an advisory not a fail, and I was surprised how thin they were in places. It's not that hard to make your own in copper, and pretty cheap too.
