I had new springs fitted last March and the inside of my Suspension arms were sound. No rust!

I see your fuel cooler aerofoil has corroded and disappeared the same as mine has.

I have now tackled the job with my angle grinder and I can now report that we are back to solid metal and ready for treating. I will have another day preparing the surfaces and then I will apply Aquasteel (used on ship decks and oil riggs).
It will then get a top coat of hammerite. Finally waxoyl will be applied to the inner sections of the suspension arms and all the nooks and crannies. Its a ll in the preparation! I'm pleased to say that the rust is not as bad as some of the other pictures I have seen. I put this down to regular hosing down the salt accumulations in winter's past. |

The offside rear suspension arm (not the one the spring sits in) has (or in our case had :-/) a small aerofoil to direct air passing under the car into the fuel cooler behind it.

Yes the rivets corrode and or the brackets rot, so they have a nasty habit of falling off.
It's one of the few part numbers I can remember without looking it up it's PIG000010 Russ

Time to replace!!
Another afternoon cleaning rust off my suspension arms. Unfortunate I discovered a crack along the top of the offside suspension arm. On discovering this its made my mind up to replace. I will use aquaseal on the rest of the rusty surfaces, but exclude the upper arms. Time to replace me thinks!
