Rear suspension arms to restore
Having had all new rear suspension fitted to my V6, Terry at TS Autos recommended I keep the old ones as they were still solid if a little brown on the surface. Got a quote today for shot blast and powder coating from a place in Gloucester. £75 plus vat. Anyone else had this done?
The bucket was included to give the quoter a sense of size of arms to be done as I emailed the picture. Sent from my POT-LX1 using Tapatalk

That price isn't too bad, I got charged £150 for the lot including the subframe, worth every penny to ensure its kept rust free.

Having 2 75’s it seemed a good price for a set of arms to put aside for the future. It’s over £300 now for a new set.

Would appreciate what the best way forward is exactly. Are we talking Hammerite?

Powder coat is ok but it's a bit brittle and as soon as its split or holed water just gets sucked in like capillary action and it does its worst unseen, until its too late. Wet painting is better for such a harsh environment as long as a good coating is used. I've used Rustoleum in commercial property maintenance and its always done the job whereas Hammerite just isn't the same as it once was and pretty rubbish now. Always use a good primer though don't just slap the paint straight on, even though it says you can.

Have to agree, powder coating is not a good long term thing, it soon cracks and let's water in.

Just doing my suspension at the moment.
After getting back to bare metal I have always used paint schemes for Longevity. Powder coat for me on suspension looks good to start with but then when it cracks water gets underneath. When I say paint, not Hammerite!!! You need to stabilise the metal, stop oxygen getting to the ferrous with a decent Zinc primer then paint that will form a hard layer and protect. I have use different 2 X pack systems but my current paint of choice is Corroless which is used extensively in the marine industry. All that said I think it's worth blasting these unit and seeing how they look then re preserving. I would change the bushes as well if it was me.
