Side Trim Strips - Chrome?
On my ZT-T I have body coloured trim strips running the length of the car. A couple of them have small chips and when I have looked closer they appear to be chrome underneath the paint.
Is it a case that all body coloured trims on these cars are just painted chrome? I only ask, as I actually want to replace the Trophy Blue ones on my car for a bit of chrome bling. If it is that they are chrome, whats the best thing to get the paint off without damaging the chrome finish? Cheers, Dave |

Yep, as far as I know they are all painted chrome, as is the strip at the bottom of the doors on the sills

Great news that they are chrome!
What's the best thing to strip the pain off without messing up the chrome finish? Cheers, Dave |

They are even better than chrome..they are stainless steel and you can have them chemically stripped with no problem whatsoever. I did it on my ZTT and was very pleased with the results. Only snag is that removing the strips will break nearly all the fixing clips, so have a good supply handy for refitting.

Before going professional I tried myself with paint stripper. It just took ages as the paint is quite thick in places and it was a messy affair..

I don't mind spending time on this, as I have a spare set of trims (albeit in red), so I was going to look to buy some sort of stripper and then just take it one strip at a time until I have all of them done. Then simply swap them over when the weather picks up (whenever that may be!). I may even break less clips if its warmer......
Anyone got any recommendations for what to use on the paint? Cheers, Dave |

Hi Stu,
Thanks for the reply and the link was very informative. I may even look at doing the trims on the sills now.......... Cheers, Dave |
