I would like to wave a flag for the much derided Austin Ambassador - the car the Princess should have been from the start.

Yes of course the quality by then was BL at its worst, but nothing could touch them for comfort - the hydrogas system was cured of its earlier float and pitching to give a serene glass like ride even the 75 can't match. Hard to believe but true.

Mine was gold with effortlessly naff orange interior of laughable quality, but you didn't mind - it was very roomy, and traveled over broken road surfaces with supernatural ease.

Motor magazine gave it a full 5 stars for ride comfort, although they were less enamoured with the rest of the car.

Could be here all night if I listed all the British Tin I've owned over the years, so I'll just list the MG's and Rovers...

68 MGB GT, 69 MGC Roadster, 75 MGB GT Costello V8, MG Metro, Metro Turbo x3, Maestro, Montego Turbo,ZS 180 x 2, ZT x6.....so far.

Rover, 213 vdp, SD1 Vitesse x 3, 620 Ti x 5, 820 Vitesse Coupe x 3, 827 Coupe x 2, 216gti, and 75 x 6...so far.

Loved most of them, hated some of them, but if I had the space and the money I'd probably still have most of them!!

I had the MGC in 1981, previous recorded keeper was Morris Garages and I sold it for £800..... What on earth would that be worth today.....

Definitely a BMC/BL/ARG/Rover/MGR fan (and all the constituent parts of them). Have a soft spot for Austin and Longbridge above all the other parts of the BL empire though

Previously owned:

Austin Allegro x2
Austin Maestro 1.3 HLE
Austin Montego 1.6 Estate
Vanden Plas 1500
Vanden Plas 1.5
Rover 2000TC
Rover 827Si

Same here, shame it all went pear shaped through the years as it did.

As follows, BL and MGR products from when i started driving in '74.

Triumph Toledo x 2
Triumph Dolomite Sprint, good car that was.
Mini
Triumph 2000 PI
MG Midget
MGB BT
Montego 2.0 SI, another good car. Hugely under estimated i think, would have loved the MG Turbo version!!! Insurance in the early 90's put paid to that one!!
MG ZT 160 + 2.5, my current car.
And hopefully in the next week or 2, an MGF will be joining us!!

Some good memories there.

Dave.

I spose I like all Rover and previous as currently have a 75 tourer, a 75 saloon in bits (getting smaller by the month), wife has a 200, father has a 400.

Have also had 2 mini clubmans, a MG Metro Turbo, 216 vitesse. Wife had a mini.

Must admit that the 75 is defo the best. (But the vitesse was a beast )

A big BMC/Leyland Motors fan although in 30 years of motoring I have only owned seven cars, three of which I still own:

82 to 89 MG Metro 1300
89 to 98 MG Montego Efi
98 to date MGF Abingdon vvc
00 to 03 Rover 214SLi
01 to 10 Rover 420 GSi
10 to date Rover 75 tourer Connie SE CDTi
10 to date MG ZT 260SE

Had the most fun in the Metro, over 130,000 miles in the
Montego, fast car in a straight line but soggy handling. But the 75 is the best car I have ever owned, it will be a sad day when it needs to be replaced.
