Default diesil knock

What exactly is diesil knock I assume its to do
with Wear but why does it have to be so noisy
petrol engines wear but dont make the same clatter
its one of those things ive always wanted to know
but never got around to asking

No it's nothing to do with Ware, I used to get it in Chelmsford with my CDT

Nothing to do with wear whatsoever, it's all to do with the pressures involved in the combustion cycle of a diesel engine.

The fuel on a diesel is injected into the cylinder as the piston is approaching TDC and before maximum compression has been reached. Therefore the burning charge is creating pressure and also being compressed at the same time hence the characteristic diesel knock. It can be a lot worse in colder conditions.

These days common rail diesel engines don't do this much due to the fact that the fuel is injected in stages which improves the combustion of the diesel and produces more power, torque and also lessens noise.
The advances in fuel technology have played a part in making modern diesel engines quieter too.

Normally the diesel engines on the 75/ZT are pretty quiet with next to no real "Knock" but on a tuned engine (with a Synergy fitted) you may get a bit of diesel knock especially in colder weather with the engine cold, but can be minimised by using good quality fuel instead of Supermarket fuels or by turning the synergy down a bit.
