Default Electric tripping

Hi, on our first trip out (no pun), the electrics to the fridge, sockets etc tripped out randomly. The previous owners said this never happened before so could it have been a dodgy site outlet or should I get it looked at?

Cheers, si

I guess you're talking caravans? Domestic electric 'nuisance tripping' is often caused by a loose terminal/wire in the consumer unit. If you're confident/competent, check the tightnss of the screws in the MCB's. Failing that, the load is in excess of the breaker protecting it. Please err on the side of caution, or is your hair naturally frizzy?

Check te amperage you are using on each appliance, then check at the site when you arrive, what amperage the hook up is....a lot of sites use a 10amp hook up, so if like me your sat with fridge running, light on and watching your TV and then feel a little chilly so decide the put the Carver heater on (using electric not gas) then POP! you trip out...... to much amperage,

this would trip the electrics at the post, not the caravan surly? i thought the problem was the caravan trips?. i would have thought the caravan would be able to run all of it's built in electrics at once. not sure if running things from the mains sockets if there are any could cause the main breaker in the caravan to trip. what amperage is the caravn trip rated at?

I'd have to have a look to be fair. It is the switch with the fridge, sockets and space heater on it.

I agree, my mistake was not sure where it was tripping, yes the caravan should cope with everything, however that would be if everything is standard and fitted correctly. Is the van new? has it got standard electrics or has someone added something?

You say first trip out, can i presume you have just got the van... if so can I recommend you find a local caravan service engineer (check their reviews prior to use) get a service done on the van, they will check the Electrics The Gas and Water as part of the service, point out your concern.

I recommend it gets checked, especially the Gas after all confined spaces and Calor Gas can be lethal, and not just fire, a leak or carbon onoxide build up can be fatal

Be Safe

It had a service about 4 weeks prior to our purchase. We are good friends with the couple we bought it off and we are happy that everything has been done as it's all backed up with a report and documents for service history.

The van is in storage at the moment so ill have to wait until the weekend to get down to it.

Cheers, si
