OP,
I've a oil feed pipe and I work in Market Lavington, (5miles away)
my turbo went 5 months ago and the part was very very hard to find, but when the turbo was changed found that my original way OK to re-use.

PM me if you need it. £30 is what I paid and what I would like for it. its new in the bag.

Dear Phil,
I have done just about everything to my engine, I will be able to tell you if the turbo has gone and if the “thermostat” is at fault, not that you have one, all Turbo’s were fitted with PRT’s and all none turbo by the time your car was made in 2004.
You say in your post that they fitted a new thermostat, as it was “lazy” it actually sound to me that:
1. The HGF was done and they fitted a thermostat when one is not required, hence the boiling water.
2. When the HG is done and the water mixes with the oil and the resulting sludge will clog up the 6mm oil feed pipe starving the turbo of oil causing it to overheat and eat an oil seal.

When fitting the turbo don’t forget to change the oil drive it till it get warm then flush and refill, you need to make sure the new oil feed pipe doesn’t block as before. Then take out the thermostat that’s been fitted and flush the coolant, and Bob should be your uncle. Oh and don’t forget to check the intercooler for oil, quite possibly the turbo dumped the oil there,
I’m not very far away and I’m happy to help if I can
Ray

Hi Ray, I've already ordered the pipes from CMC. £84 including seals and gaskets. Pity. I was in Market Lavington today too. (I was the one holding up the traffic in the road sweeper) lol. I'll have a word with Tim, my mechanic, in the morning and see what the story is with the thermostat. Cheers buddy

Hi Ray, Turbo arrived today. Rang Tim, he said there was a thermostat at the back of the engine and he'd replaced it. I told him to take it out again. CMC haven't ordered the pipes as they weren't sure which ones I wanted!! Specialists my ****!! lol. Tim'll have a look at my pipes on Monday. Said they might be ok to re-use?? If not, then I'll have yours. I'll P.M. you Monday evening.

Did the plenums and pollen filter using Arctics excellent instructions, and was all set to attempt the plugs on Sunday. Sat night I drove 15 miles to a gig, and when I arrived I noticed steam. Popped the bonnet and found coolant spewing from the filler cap. It was slightly loose, so after it cooled down I topped it up and replaced the cap tightly. Same result when I got home. Following morning I undid the cap and coolant spewed out again as if it was hot, and now the engine light is on. The guy I bought the car off said it had just had the HG done, but had mislaid all the paperwork except the logbook. I haven't the knowledge or expertise to attempt to figure this out. I suppose you could say I'm to mechanics what Jo Brand is to weightwatchers!! lol. So the question is, does anyone know a Rover specialist in the East Wilts area? Obviously I'm not driving at the moment, so they'd have to come to me. Thanks in advance, Phil.

sounds to me like itis nothing to worry about as you said the cap was loose .if the cap is loose then the systm can not working properly and can not pressurise. the coolant will then boil and it would run back out of the cap as it isnt tight... re fill it and bleed the system well making sure their is no way any air was left in there .. its all too easy to say oh sounds like hgf ... it dont sound like it isto me as above ....

Finally got car back this evening, and it seems fine. Got the cam belt done as well as the turbo. Change plugs and air filter tomorrow. :-)
