I know what it's like working nights. Did my last one, last night, before leaving the company to start a new job Monday. Sorry, back on thread. I'm looking forward to seeing the photos

Just an idea, but for the people with Cruise control could they not change the earth so it goes through the car chassis and use earth wire with that goes through the steering wheel as the feed for the illumination?

I would like to know what LED's you used? reason is I tried two LED's mounted same place as they are shown, but they are not really lighting up the buttons, at least not like in the photos shown on here. I think the PCB is going to obstruct most if not all of any light source with the LED mounted right below it
not unless there is some way to pass light through the PCB (drilling a few holes or a fibre optic cable) |

I agree with fraz59. My steering wheel is in bits on my bench at the moment. Despite getting the brightest LED's i can find, installing them in accordance with the photos from Steve916 on this thread, they don't come close to illuminating the controls in the same way that is shown in Racerock3's "finished product" photos.
I'm of the conclusion that the only way to get decent illumination is to drill through the pcb and place the led actually in the button by bend the led wires 90 degrees to allow the full output to shine towards the white legend on the buttons. I'm very keen to see how race rock achieved the quality of light shown in his photos.

Maybe it's just me. All the cars have the controls in the same place, we all know where they are, we all know what function they provide and the purpose of the controls is to operate them by touch not sight and we can operate them without looking for them so why illuminated them?
Of course want is more powerful than need. Ok it's just me. I want mine illuminated

As best as I can I will issue a "how to" for the steering wheel lighting mod within the next two days .Please bear with me whilst I dig out the req'd info.I did pass the "how to" to a mod for publishing as I was seriously ill ay the time and suffering memory loss, dont know what happened to it ,so as I a have recovered somewhat I will give it a whirl as it is a good mod and very reliable.Regards
