Default Xpower upgrade

Evening everyone!

Been thinking about this for a few weeks now. Given my current costs on insurance I can't afford to even think about running a synergy on my 116 CDT ZTT. So getting hold of an xpower upgrade seems a very likely option. I really like the way the car behaves on the road especially through twisty bits but just lacks that extra oomph for overtaking.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of sourcing one?

Try your local xpart service centre, needs to be put on a T4 to do it and it'll probably cost you the price of a synergy unit.

I went and phoned 2 x parts , who had not heard of it, but despite assurances and being chased never phoned back, eventually talked to x part, they were very helpful told me that they still do it and even told me who to talk to at a local xpart/mg garage and to tell the garage to phone her with all the details.

Got it a week or so later, Cost £200 plus vat for the software, paid this to garage, T4 was about £50 plus Vat.

Big difference in performance and fuel economy was better as well.
Insurance was about £25 dearer.

Fuel economy improvements should pay for the extra insurance? Bonus....

I dont want to sound difficult, but I have to ask, could you explain why its £200 for the upgrade?

I get the rational for a T4 session charging £50, as I understand it this is the bit where it gets applied and some time is spent installing it, along with the associated risks (if there are any).

But to generate a certificate from a VIN number it seems a lot of cash to me.

Perhaps I have it wrong and more is involved, and maybe a better understanding of the justification would enable me to part with the £200.

Thanks
Simon

It used to be over twice as expensive.

If you went to a tuning company and asked them for a re-map it would cost about the same for a similar amount of effort.

With the X-power upgrade at least you know what you're getting.

I had it applied on mine and was very pleased with the results, with the addition of the Synergy has transformed the car completely.
