I've always bought Kenda Kaiser budget tyres recently.

Always been impressed with them to be honest for the money. Excellent grip in the dry and reasonably good in the wet.

As long as you drive without pushing the cars to the extreme there should never be an issue.

Im using the Blackcircles finance option, its pretty easy, no issues and even with the credit interest they were a lot cheaper than the garage that ended up fitting them.

With cheap tyres its not really about day to day driving as such. They might reduce the enjoyment a little, but the real issue is emergency braking, especially in the wet. Budgets can take 50% longer to stop you in the wet. You also get much less of that unstable 'tip-toeing' feeling in the wet if you fit better tyres.

I managed to get 4 245-40-18,s for 300 spats from National Tyres, they are Wanli and were cheaper than the standard 225-45-18,s and they look better. Mine is a taxi and they,ve done 10,000 miles and i,ve still got loads of tread on them.

I replaced my budgets in march (i think) after less than 3000miles on them. They still had 6mm of tread, but i couldnt stand them many more.

I dont have an issue with the mid-range or lower-mid range stuff like the Kumho, Avon, Marshall, Federals etc, they can be good value, and while not great in the wet, they are more than serviceable. Its the Sunew, Autogrip, Kenda, Wanli and worst of all Linglong tyres that are so bad they should be illegal.

We do not have a British or European standard for grip, only construction. As long as they are legally constructed they are fine, but that doesnt mean they will have any grip. Its perfectly possible to have fully legal but lethal tyres. In my experience my almost illegal Bridgestones had far far more grip in the extreme wet that my almost new Autogrips or Sunews.

I wonder how long it will be before Insurers have an approved list of tyre brands. I understand there is a something about tyres in some US states. Not so much an extra charge for cheap ones, but a discount for approved ones.

Personally I would go part used good brand over cheap new unknown brand tyres. Have run on good part used all my life and never had a problem. Just ask to see inside them first and buy from a tyre dealer that you know.

I wouldn't be worried with budgets in the dry, but in the wet IMO they cannot be trusted, especially in an emergency when you really need stopping power. BTW I have been driving for 35 years.
