Fan & Coolant
2 Days Running coming home from work I notice the fan was running. Once I pulled onto the drive at home & let it cool down I checked the water. The header tank was empty. It is fine in this morning when I got to work. No signs of any leaks anywhere.

If no leaks of coolant are noticed, and all basic checks are made, have your engine block tested, this would reveal any hg integrity issues. Phil T-4 has a 1.8 that looked fine in the rocker cover with a small amount of goo in the header tank, but when the head was removed, the block looked ready for a shave with so much creamy gooy stuff between the liners!
Worth considering before damage is caused. JohnH. |

The car is running fine though. If it's the HG. Then the car will have to go. Can't afford to have the work done. It has only happened the last couple of days.

Although you say you haven't got any external leaks, have a look down the back of the engine (under the inlet manifold) for coolant stains.
I would also check down the front of the engine (under the crank pulley & around sump area) in case your water pump has a slight leak. |

You say up to the maximum mark, but how much coolant did you add, a thimble full, a cup full, a pint or more. Might be worth looking at the IMG as that's a known area where coolant can leak into the cylinders and thus not visible externally.
Any coolant loss especially on a 1.8 should be investigated, otherwise you will have a HG problem. |
