Eset's NOD32 has for a while been up there with the best - very good program.

I use Norton myself and have done for years, and it used to be a total memory hog in earlier versions, my old laptop couldn't cope. The older versions were okay only if you had the system resources to deal with it. The latest versions though as has been said are far better and looking now Norton is using just over 10mb of RAM, which on pretty much any computer is absolutely nothing.

Microsoft Security Essentials is indeed good - and there's no need for it to include its own firewall, being Microsoft it utilizes the Windows one.
