Towing with an auto gearbox
Hi- just a bit of advice needed - I have an automatic 04 plate 75 connoisseur se cdti saloon and want to fit a tow bar to tow our small 2 berth caravan - I know all about max load weights etc but am just abit worried about gear box oil etc as people keep telling me to check that u can only tow if its got a "coolant" system on the gearbox - how do I know - and is there anything else I should be looking at/for - cheers

The automatic is fitted with an oil cooler,it is situated under the radiator, from advice I read on here, stop after 4 hours towing, for about 30 minutes to allow gearbox to cool. It’s only advisory though, it’s not something you have to do.
Do not get anything that is not Rover MG compatible, any make will do, as long as it is the correct spec. See here for various manufacturers compatible https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...7&postcount=23

I have a manual don't know if the same for auto but when I get to the end of my journey or stop at services I let the engine idle for a couple of minutes and if not raining, open the bonnet to let the heat out

Towing Caravan
I use my Cdti auto to pull my lunar caravan, never had a problem with gearbox overheating. One suggestion though, consider having a 160 remap, obvious extra power but also more mpg. Pulling 1500kg van averages between 27 and 30 mpg with van behind.

I towed with an auto diesel tourer pulling 1500kg and never had a problem in 9 years of owning the car but the 160 remap really does help.

I've towed a small caravan with my V6 auto, not had any issues.
