Default MG ZT CDTI Auto Gearbox

Hello, I have a small issue with the automatic gearbox in my mg ZT (diesel).

Sometimes, when it’s been in (R) reverse, when moving back to D (drive) it takes a while to go into drive, and when it does the car jerks.

It never used to do this, and seems to be getting worse. Any ideas what could be causing it? The car has 125k on it.

Thankyou.

Hmmm. Mine did this in 16/17, but only when first starting from cold. Wouldn't be an issue thereafter the whole day.

In my case it seemed to be gear box oil. At the 2016 service I bought Ford GAT (or something like that) from me local emporio de voitures and fed it in meself. In 2017 I let my mechanic buy his preferred / trusted OEM oil when he did the job and it hasn't happened since.

An eerily similar thing happened with my E46 auto, but I never got to the bottom of that.

That notwithstanding, my car ALWAYS jerks a little when going from P to D, e.g. on hill starts. It jerks a LOT if I feed throttle in when making the change. I, erm, don't do that now. Doesn't stop it from changing gear perfectly at all other times.

Have you checked the auto fluid level?
That’s always a good place to start.
Has the atf ever been changed?
Might be worth doing so.🤔
Also, check condition of
- tear drop engine mount.
If it’s perished, that may also account for a jolt.

Change the auto transmission fluid, problem more than likely solved.

Thanks, the fluid was changed, about a year ago, could check the level though, not sure how likely it is to have leaked? Not sure if the temperate affects it, as just thinking this has only started recently when it's been not..?!

May need the cable adjusting, mine did this until I adjusted the selector cable.

You ought to have the resistance on the automatic gearbox solenoids checked by someone who knows how the Jatco box actually works.

Has anybody considered the possibility the bottom mount may be totally shot?

Just before anyone starts to use a sledgehammer to crack a walnut, worth a quick look

The bottom mount has been changed. Maybe it's the cable. It seems to be getting worse. Not good when reversing out onto a road , then want to go forward, and can take 5-10 seconds for drive to kick in !
