Default My travels

One of the local attractions whilst we were staying near Warwick was a section of canal called Hatton Locks. There are 21 locks in a line, to allow vessels to climb and descend the varying water heights - pretty hard work if you're the skipper of a canal boat I would suggest!

We did see the peace and tranquility of the canal from the towpath.....

..... we also saw a number of narrow boats .....

..... a lot of locks .....

..... what we hadn't expected to see in the car park was a beautifully restored 1966 VW Beetle .....

..... and an equally beautiful 1953 Riley 2.4 litre Drophead coupe - stunning!

..... but - there were some huge insects too

We have some much needed rain here today, not heavy ,but might help the gardens a bit.

Send some my way mate - can't afford to use the hosepipe on the garden now I'm on a water meter. To cut costs, all visitors to my house in future are advised to bring their own water supplies with them to cover cups of tea, hand washing and most of all - loo flushing

The Honda dealers did mention the wear last time they had the car - and quoted me a replacement cost which was so high I had to climb a step ladder to see it

I'm trying to keep my scheduled services with the dealer, as every service since new has been carried out by a Honda main dealer, and that added to the two owners only, and 60,000 miles on an '08 car, means that it might one day be worth a few more shillings than the norm. Other work outside the servicing - I'm happy to have done by an independent. Funnily enough, we have a load of local garages, with factory trained technicians setting them up as small businesses - Jags, Renault, Volvo, all French cars etc. - but not a Honda one.

The garage my son is taking his car into today came recommended by a good friend who has used them for around 10 years - so I think I'll go with them.

And the result of today's quote comparison for pads and disks on the front of the CR-V is:-
  • Honda dealer - £290 (good job it's not the Type R Civic - £420 for the same work - albeit ventilated disks )
  • Independent - £120

Not really a contest is it

Evenin' all, It's been a grey ol but muggy day, it's horrible. The wind has picked up & it's ust started to rain again albeit lightly.

Salad weather again so we're having bangers & mash, asparagus, carrots & sweetcorn with onion gravy
Even the cats got some as I'd made loads and they've scoffed the lot.

Nice canal pictures Rod , it looks like an idyllic lifestyle when it looks as beautiful as that.

I’ve seen rain for the first time in about four weeks!

Had a heavy shower here in Shipley!

Then again, it’s Yorkshire it normally rains in Yorkshire!
