Looking For Another MG ZT-T

I've only just recently joined the forum. Bought a really nice ZTT 190 with 35K miles with a great spec and condition.

I was looking for a medium size estate such as an A6, 5 series, Passat etc which would cost IRO 8K for a car with upwards of 80K miles.

I've now got a stunning looking car with all bells and whistles at a fraction of the cost.

This is the second car I have done this with. I bought an really nice E36 touring for £3400 nearly 4 years ago with 51K miles and is now on around 80 and still going strong with quite minimal outlay. Sounds a lot but if you do the sums 4 years with minimal outlay and the fact it is probably still worth something now, starts to make sense.

On the other hand I could have bough a boring estate which could still end up with some big bills which I have to look at every day.

That's a real stunner and only 35K on the clock!

To be honest it's the thought of spending lots of money on a daily driver (and it would have to be as I don't have the space for a fleet of cars) getting it back to how I want it then some muppet drives into me and it's either written off instantly or I have to fight for it not to be that has dulled my enthusiasm.

When I bought it I looked at all the usual suspects and nothing came close really. I spent a lot of money getting it to how I wanted it...... then I got bored and just drove it..... then I was into constantly chasing knocks and bangs around the suspension..... and I was bored with it already.

However, I have been looking at cars again to replace it and there is absolutely nothing in my price range (up to about £6K) that I either actually want to own, don't think will be a money pit or would be big enough for a dad car

My origenial Rover I will have owned for 25 year in two months time and I am planning the next 25 years with it That is my 220 coupe or at least one off them. My wife bounced between a J reg 416SLI and one off our 2L CDTI 75 Contempory's this winter and both are as reliable as each other even thou one is twice the ago.

We have been running a 75 for less than 8 years but are Hoping to keep them going long term as well.

As cheap parts start to dry up those who want cheap motoring will quickly separtate from those that are prepare to maintane thier cars and pay list prices for OE parts.

Some will not be propare to pay the cost and run thier cars into the gound, but many many others will and will run thier cars long into the fucture.

My friend is currently sorting out how to pay her 2.5k bill for work on her audi A4.....she still owes 8k for it so has no choice but to fork out for the repairs.

On the other hand, she could have bought a lovely 75CDT and realistically her biggest bill would potentially be £1k IF the clutch went......I know other things can happen but lets be realistic...….

I still think the 75 is a good investment for cheap motoring....as long as you're prepared not to be sucked into the repairs v value argument which is a pathetic argument anyway.

I agree with the "written off" issue. Hopefully, in the not too distant future, I will be able to get an agreed value classic car policy on mine which will avoid the worry.

I use my Connie Tourer daily going round Derby and it has about 12 good runs a year round the country, it is still a great car to use daily I think.
It was a joy to drive when we went down to Cornwall in May and better than previous cars I have owned.

The info and expertise on this forum is second to none and I thank everyone who has given me advice when I have had problems.

Onwards and Upwards.

Well in France your car need to be 30 years old to get a collection card.
Only then in case of any damage written off is forbidden without the owner's consent and repairs become compulsory for the insurance.
My 75 V6 Connie 19 years old last 1st of July is still in need of 11 years... it's a long way to go for both of us without any accident...

I bought my Typhoon ZT 1 month after turning 20. For the last 4 and a half years it's been my daily and still is, but once I get my ZT-T 190 SE which I recently purchased on the road, the ZT-T will be the daily and the Typhoon will be garaged and will come out on nice days or for shows

Personally found the ZT to be pretty cheap to maintain, the difference in running costs is if you take your 75/ZT to a specialist mechanic or a general garage, the price difference is huge. The typhoon is only being semi retired as I'm too worried about it getting hit again.

My dad has had his 75 for 6 years now and has been a daily all that time and still will be for years to come, been an extremely reliable car (touch wood). Only asked for front springs, new back box, starter motor, brake discs and pads, front wishbone bushes, 2 x new battery and high pressure pump regulator seals in that time. Not bad over 6 years and 80k miles.

Currently we have 5 MG/Rovers between 3 of us, 1 ZT diesel, 1 ZT-T v6, 1 75 diesel, 1 75 v6, and a TF 135
