The kit only came into Eurocarparts today - went to pick it up and the bolts are completely wrong. They're too short and have a kind of fixed butterfly type end rather than a nut and bolt. I'm a bit annoyed as I wanted to get the job done yesterday but there you go.
Brian if I could take you up on your offer that'd be great mate - will pm you |

What a palava. Ordered a set of pins on eBay after the set Brian sent me went missing in the post. They sent me 2 pins with no retainers and 2 springs. So I went to Screwfix and bought some M6x40 bolts, added washers and a nylock nut - job done. I used 2 new springs and cut down the best 2 of the old ones and reused. So that's new shoes, new discs, new pads and a new backbox ready for MOT. Thanks for the various advice guys |

Nice one Billy, you do realise the backplates themselves are the retaining device for the pins?
The norm is the backplate rots away where the pin normally goes through and turns by 90 degrees to lock, If you don't wish to replace the backplate or repair it, then bolts provide a reasonable short term fix, provided the hole in the brake shoe web is enlarged to allow the shoe to articulate sufficiently to operate. I did just that on the wife's car, as I don't intend to keep it beyond it's MOT expiry. Brian |

Forgot to say, if the set you ordered from eBay only included two pin and springs, did it arrive in a tatty looking jiffy bag with the address handwritten in black felt tip ?
If so, I would contact the eBay seller to see if they've posted them out, as the two new springs in your picture look to have been shortened by one coil with a Dremel Brian |

Yeah the pin holes probably turned into big holes a long time ago - on one side was 2 thinner nut and bolts like mine, one of which had pulled through completely and the other one was close, on the other side were pins and short springs but they had a small disc which sat behind the backplate for the pin to turn 90 degrees into. I just used washers behind the backplate and a nylock nut. Send me your PayPal addy Brian |
