Default Does anyone repair or swop seats/parts

Does anyone repair or swop seats/parts?
I ask as I may want to farm this out.

The drivers heated seat is not heating but I am yet to test why.
I have practised taking the seat apart on a duff seat I purchased just for practising on. I have learnt a thing or two

The heating element is stuck on, on the corners to the foam so I doubt can be removed.
The middle of the leather seat is held in place by some clips, I don't know how these come apart or reattach. Can you advise?

If I change the heating element using "genuine" do I just stick it on top of the old one?

I’ve never stripped a 75 seat but have done other manufacturers. The ones I’ve done the heating element is like a fabric mat with the element inside, this just glues to the seat foam. The metal clips holding the cover are called hog rings and there are special pliers to fit them, they are like standard pliers but with a groove in them to hold the clip. To remove a pair of side cutters to grip them and a twisting action bends them open. I’ve seen cable ties and welding rods used but I wouldn’t recommend.

THeres a how to on here somewhere about stripping seats down and repairing the malfunctioning heated seats.
From memory it is just the thermostat that stops functioning, they were available but I don't know if they still are. It's also not a straightforward process but by no means impossible.

I also recall someone throwing away the standard element and replacing it with an aftermarket one.

Edit, those rings will probably be the hog rings, just a split ring that gets crimped together in assembly. They can be teased apart and re-crimped but are available from rimmer, I noticed them a couple of days ago when looking for a seat component.

Thank you. I have stripped a spare duff seat and don't want to do my car seat, I'm worried I would knacker it but I'm a lot wiser now.
I think I would need a good seat as a spare before I'd attempt a fix on mine.

Ian, hog rings can be found HERE

And the pliers HERE

I bought a set of these when I dismantled a blue alcantara rear seat cushion to allow the removal of a melted sweetie.

They are a valuable addition to any toolbox, and on 75 seats, the pleats are secured to the foam of the cushion with load of these, and the tools I linked too are ideally suited.

The heating elements are embedded into the foam, I've not had to retrofit an aftermarket heating grid, but I'm sure Rich197321312.876 recurring had success with an aftermarket kit........take a look HERE

Although I worked for many years within the motor industry I had never actually stripped a seat down until a couple of years ago when I converted the passengers seat of my Zircon 75 to allow height adjustment.
I was surprised just how easy it is to strip off the leather covering thus revealing the heated element.
One thing to note is where the wiring is routed around the reclining mechanism it can become frayed right through so would render the heated seat inoperative.
In my case I didn’t have to use any special tools.

Thanks Brian, is there a tool similar in operation to circlip pliers to undo the hog rings?

The pliers I have or more like these ones, they are designed to hold the ring hole you get it into position

https://hwebber.co.uk/shop/c-s-osbor...g-ring-pliers/

You should always use new rings so side cutters work well when removing
