I do need to get the MAF, manifold and pipework off the Tourer and thoroughly cleaned out. It's smoking like a nervous Dave Allen now. Plus it's got a rythmic chatter when cold from a pulley belt somewhere, the front brake sensor has been up the chuff for months, an early oil change would be good and maybe even throw a bucket of soapy water over it too. Meanwhile the saloon is safely snuggled up in a big dry vermin-free barn surrounded by some very exotic motors. Lucky thing.

The plan today was to go by the tyre shop to get the snow tyres swapped off so that I could start repainting the wheels. But....This morning my daughter called asking us to babysit my grandson so of course the tyre shop was put off till tomorrow.
Off now with my N95 mask at the ready to see if the local Canadian Tire store has any wheel paint in stock. I may pop by the grocery store next door to see if they have ant loo roll as well. COVID update on this post: Looks like I will be taking early retirement (I had planned it for December but with things going for a **** it looks like May 1st. will be the date) I have stocked up on wheel paint and clearcoat so now I have an isolation project.

I didn't do a thing on the tourer today but I made myself a Injector copper-washer removal tool, out of 8mm all thread, idea taken of the FL forum
Used an old rubber handle of a pair of pliers, it makes it more friendlier to the hand 1 tapered end so it fits into the washer nicely. 2 3 Also sorted out a fan which needed a new gold resistor and the motor cleaning. 1 2 3 4

Off today. Reversing beeper stayed on constant tone 3 days ago indicating a fault. Ignored it and it mended its self. Checked to see if all 4 sensors were clicking and they were. Today its faulting again. So went pharmacy and got some vitamin D instead. Oh and I blew th tyres up as it was pulling to th left. only 27 lbs in front left... Didn't check boot for water ingress... Didn't hoover it either. Maybe tomorrow I will.

I put the ZT jobs on hold in order to pull the bumper off the MGF to repair the bonnet catch cable. The sooner the F is sorted the sooner I can put it up for sale to help fund my retirement. The ZT is staying as it's a much more dignified and comfortable MG for an old retired g*t

Me again...Today I went into the garage with the best of intentions and jacked the front of the ZT up to get started on the lower front arm replacement.
…..Only to find the bolts for the rear bushings have an 18mm head. First time ever I have needed an 18mm wrench! It might be different in the UK but most North American metric wrench sets only have odd number sizes, so I am off to the tool store on Monday. At least I was able to install the L/H spring protector that's been kicking around since last summer. When I received the set from Rimmers it was missing one of the self threading mounting bolts. They sent me another set but it has taken me this long to get around to putting it on.

Ah, when I did my brakes I remember using my 18mm socket for the first time.
For some reason socket sets have 18s but not wrench sets-Go figure? There must have been a German infiltrator in the design office.

And take a look HERE This describes the fitting of the rear bush in isolation, however the removal method of the M14 bolts with the 18mm A/F heads is pertinent whether replacing the bush, or the whole arm, the main difference being the reassembly method as you will be doing the job on axle stands presumably. Well I did nothing to the ZT today, instead I dismantled the cooker and scrubbed it clean, then scrubbed up the kitchen floor, and the cupboards etc.
Followed on by an overhaul of my Dualit toaster, finished off by a polish using G3...........shiny shiny shiny Brian |

Two thirds the way through my shower this morning and it stopped! Quick call to Screwfix and "Yes! That's an essential repair job-click and collect". All ready for me, usual journey time 45 minutes, to day at speed limits, 20 minutes! "Is this compatible with the old model?" "Yes". After redrilling and plugging all but one of the fixings and having to move the new head fixings over (more drilling and pluggiing-filling old holes), job done! Ahh! Where's the teapot! Thank you for all those folks working and for all those folks who stayed at home to make my journey time shorter! Stay safe and clean folks!
