Update it was the small wire on starter after all i found it at 7 am this morning as there was no immobiliser light showing with a cross through it so thouight id check the starter wire and Bingo.

Could this be something as simple as the light duty wire to the starter sol needing a clean?

Hi Julian.
Nice to hear you found the problem but don't be surprised if it does it again, as it could also be the contacts & plunger in the starter motor, seen it a few times at the Nano, cleaning up the spade end worked great for a few weeks then nadder, we had to change the contacts & plunger in the end, usually starts at about 75,000 to 100,000 depending on how much the car as been used for short journeys which indicates more stop starting.
