Bloated overpaid sportsmen.
And the perfect example is snooker player Ronnie o'sullivan.
When finding out from the referee that a 147 maximum break paid £10 grand he decided to take a pink instead of a black thus only achieving a 146. Why ??? Because he said it wasnt enough.. He could have given it to charity but instead left it in the sponsors bank account . Greedy overblown egotistical jumped up spoilt brat. |

I couldn't agree more George, An absolute genius to watch but a 10 grand check to an hard up charity would have been a great gesture for sure.

In some aspects I agree but Ronnie does give a lot to charity anyway so he used this as a protest....to do a 147 takes maestro skill which comes from dedication and hours of practice and to only get paid 10 grand for showcasing it is a kick in the plums...to think the organisers of these tournaments get so much in sponsorship and tv rights yet give a paltry sum back to the players for giving their viewers a 147 is insulting.
To us 10grand is a lot but in the grand scheme of things with regards professional snooker players it's really not worth it.

Don't blame him, he values his skill above that. Saying he could've given it to charity is besides the point. A lot of people could give a lot to charity, but choose not to. It's something that takes skill to do, and with how much the sponsors make £10,000 is nothing.

Here was the incident
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQPHzYooWwk Before Barry Hearn came along players were playing for almost nothing (although he excluded Higgins from signing in the end because he wouldn't conform) in the early 80's Things have moved on since live tv on snooker events from the 70's and the players deserve to win a certain amount from all their time and dedication to the game and being able to do if filmed to the world Football fans to pay the earth to see there teams ans everyone puts up with it, and not a patch on a professional snookers wages. As Barry Hearn has said on this subject http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/snooker/35586231 Its Ironic really, because he wouldn't take on the books 'Hurricane Higgins' because of outlandish actions that rock the media, but is fine with Ronnie doing it. The 10 grand now 'lost' is a poke at the snooker establishment on better wages for all these pro's (not just Ronnie) we have came to, maybe take for granted'

I wouldn't go as far as saying admirer, I occasionally watch snooker...
But if he'd won it and kept the money, there wouldn't be people calling him selfish and saying he should give it to charity. You might as well say anyone who goes out for a meal and doesn't eat it all, because they could give it to a homeless person. It was a fee to be paid to him, for his work, and he chose to not bother, and miss out on the fee. Yes he gets paid far more than a lot of people, but he also gets paid a lot less than a lot of other sportsman. Where are the cries for footballers to give a weeks wages (far more money) to charity if they get a red card, or miss a goal? Quite frankly, it's got nothing to do with anyone but the Ronnie and the sponsors. |
