I had replaced as elective surgery together with the water pump at the same time as changing the timing belt. What I thought was good preventative maintenance at the time. Was you just unlucky or was it the quality of the seemingly genuine (oem spec) parts, which seem to be plaguing us more often than not these days .
Either way good result and as long as no other damage done more miles of happy motoring
