Default Front washers packed up.

Went to top up the washer bottle and found that it was full. Tried again and the motor is working as I can hear it.
Is it front bumper off time again? All I get is a couple of bubbles if I’m lucky so I’m guessing there is a blockage.

I was able to get at the pump and pipes on mine by removing the o/s front wheel arch liner There was a lot of slime at the bottom of the bottle

Yep, more than likely the grommet/filter the pump fits into is clogged with gunge that forms in the bottom of the tank. Undo the front of the OSF wheel arch liner and turn the wheel full left lock. You should be able to access the pump. Pull the pump out of the grommet and pull the grommet/filter out of the tank, beware, you'll get a flood! Clean the filter in hot soapy water, flush the tank with warm water with a mild bleach solution a couple of times then rinse with clean water. Reassemble then refill the tank, should be sorted.

Default Front washer inop

Check if the washers work with the bonnet open if they do then it is likley that the rubber washer tube is getting kinked when the bonnet is closed. There is a clip to hold the tube to the body, has happened to one of my tourers and moving the tube slightly solved the problem.

Hi Vic.
As above Steve is most likely spot on little filter in the bottom of the washer bottle, it can be change by peeling back the wheel arch liner, but if you remove the bumper you can also remove the washer bottle and give it a good clean out, you can also clean it out while in situ.

flush it out with very diluted bleach warm water several time then let an hose run in it for about 5 minutes.

Wash the little filter under the hot tap to clean out the gunk.

The car has been parked up for a while so I only got to do it today.
Through the arch liner, pulled out the motor and robber grommet/filter and sure enough out came the gunge.
Gave it a good clean and saw daylight through the little holes.
Flushed the tank a couple of times and put it all back together.

Still nothing. Motor works fine. Does the pipe work need bleeding? Is the motor pushing fresh air?

Am not sure if the motor impeller could fail, but a replacement new motor from bmws can be had for 10-15 quid on eBay (new).

I’ve just filled the tank full of clean water and it all started to work. My only theory is that the added pressure pushed the water enough for the motor to grab it and pump up.
Now I can drive to Blackburn tomorrow with some safety on the M6.
