Body control module
The wife's car speedo clock, fuel gauge, external air temperature and onboard computer display have all stopped working followed by starter motor immobiliser cutting in for car not to start. Mechanic has bypassed immobiliser so car starts now but still none of others working also displaying handbrake on symbol. Been told by auto electrician that the body control module packing up. Low and behold everything working yesterday but not today. Any suggestions as nothing wrong mechanically, don't won't to scrap. It is a saloon 04 plate conossieur CDTi diesel facelift, done 97000 miles, can it be fixed?

Do a search for plenum unblocking It's where the ECU lives & it fills with water causing all sorts of unpleasantness Oh, welcome btw

There could be a few reasons for the faults that you describe
Generally it's going to be a wiring or power distribution problem. I can certainly tell you that it isn't the body control unit that's at fault Russ

Thanks Russ, puts mind at rest, I will try and find someone near to me with a T4 and who is a Rover specialist, I do wonder if a loose wire connection somewhere. Wife wants to get rid of car but would be a great shame.

You need to speak to Terry of TS Autos in Stourbridge, he has T4, and his knowledge of the 75 is legendary
If you want his number, just let me know Brian |

Check the big fuses in the engine bay fuse box, one of mine had a loose screw at one end and caused some problems like this. One day it would start and run fine and then another it would it would not start and no central locking.

All sorted
Thanks Brian for recommending Terry, fantastic bloke. As soon as we pulled up he had detected the car was running on 3 cylinders instead of 4 (this was another problem wife had had with car smoking when idylling). Terry soon got to root of problem with electrics, problem being leaking sunroof due to blocked tube on driver's side, got loads of water up, everything working again now, he even pulled up handbrake which wasn't on our list of repairs and fixed the smoking exhaust problem by replacing one of the injectors. Wife chuffed to bits and is keeping the car now!!! Terry certainly knows his stuff, piece of mind to have found someone so knowledgeable and doesn't rip you off. Thanks Terry
