I changed my mount nearly three years ago for a power flex one, vibration was worse so I had an OEM one fitted and the vibration and rocking went back to how it was before the power flex one was fitted. The rocking was worse at about 1600 rpm in top gear going up hill, the only way to stop it was kick down to lower gear. As Wuzerk has said on page 16 the problem is often the acorn mount. Sean changed mine last week and it has cured the problem. The engine no longer rocks BUT the engine/transmission is still definitely less smooth at about 1600 rpm, presumably over time this "unsmoothness" wears or damages the mounts and is one of the causes of our problem.

It depends entirely on which grade of polybush is used, there are several different degrees of rigidness!

Just had new mount fitted. along with a drop link which was knackered after 7 months. other side still has the original drop link and is as quiet as a mouse.

The mechanic said the old engine mount looked fine and I thought so too looking at it.
I've just rinsed it and looked under a magnifier and it's knackered alright.
It's split evenly across it's length on both opposing sides but doesn't notice at a glance as the rubber is squeezing itself together.
I can't imagine an inspection under the car revealing this but close up it's a gonna.

I'm looking forward to testing the results not driving for a few day's yet.
I've got it from Jules (so it's original spec for the deisel)next day delivery too Top Man.
I've done the hand brake and clutch test which revealed the problem in the first place (Thanks Chris) and the results are now hardly any movement yipee!

Excellent two-year thread that I've just read in its entirety on the train! I've been advised to fit poly bushes on my CDTi but this seems to be going against general opinion. OEMs from College Motors seem best. Am I right? Oh, and avoid the Chinese ones!

Hi James.
This is my opinion only, if you can afford the OEM mount go with that as a first choice, then I would go for power flex making sure as always even with the OEM mount that the lower wish bone bushes are in good condition also, third choice I would go for the mondeo mount this is only because I have had no experience with them, other members have though.

With the power flex I found that using the original insert made a lot of difference again that is of my own opinion.

And yes stay clear of the Chinese mounts they are not made for the diesel R75 or the MGZT cheers Arctic.

Thank you, Arctic. I'm happy to go for the OEMs but just wanted to check my reading of a LOT of posts! I don't have massive amounts of vibration but at 145,000 miles, I don't think they've ever been changed (not in the 80,000 miles I've done in any case). Your advice is much appreciated.

145,000 miles is very good going - I've only had between 100,000 and 120,000 in the past.

Default Yowser!

What a difference my goodness.

The new mount has made the car smoother at speed and far less vibration through to me driving it.
There is still a noticeable Grrr after 70mph and the next task is changing the injectors. if that doesn't fix it then back to the drawing board.

Engine mount has made a world of difference already though.

I've had the power flex mount fitted to my tourer cdt and my Zt cdt, there was no vibration on the tourer but I get tickover vibration on the Zt but the Zt is running very rough at the minute after my accident which I think is either the power steering pump or one of the aux belt idlers both of which I plan to change so will report back once changed.
I also think the lower arm bushes need replacing on the zt which will also be done asap
