I am mainly thinking about around the chrome trim, window seals etc.

My car is 'slightly filthy' and so some green growths need to be removed

Several years ago I tried old toothbrushes for these areas but ended up marking the paintwork so I thought it best to ask folks who know what they are doing!

I quite like THESE. Use one regularly for around the 'corners' of the wheels and their bolt recesses.

Every so often, Lidl do a pack of brushes, which include sash brashes, made from wood and plastic. They would be 'adequate' but the bristles do fall out readily, however they are very soft in use.
