Losing Oil
Back in April it was noticed that my CDTI was losing oil, I assumed it had a leak. I booked the car in on my return from Norfolk, to be told the engine oil was being forced out under pressure, and the breather pipes were gunked up with dry debris. The car is still running, but now seems to be burning her oil, I have been told that this could be caused, by a part on the engine, fitted behind the injectors. Any help or suggestions most gratefull. Picture of supposed offending part attached.

Change the 'toilet roll' shaped filter that lives in that housing. You can remove it completely till you get one, or replace it with the upgraded type from bmw agent.hth

For your information - that object is called a PCV and it crops up quite regularly on the forum as a subject of discussion.

Back in the day they were vented direct to atmosphere but now to reduce emissions they are directed back to the intake of the engine via this valve. Mike |
