A 1999 car wouldn't have been a turbo would it? I thought they came later on in the production run.

They do exist though, there's an example of the 1.8T Auto 75 on Autotrader: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202402196725884

According to my brochures and the James Taylor reference book when the 1.8T was introduced it had a manual gearbox only ...

... but my facelift brochure (2004) does list the 1.8T with automatic transmission.

I just hope the ankle repairs sufficiently for Banana to stay original. Take care, and be patient, Bob.
1800 turbo auto was certainly a Rover option, one of Bluejon’s cars is this spec

Just thinking about converting Banana owing to my ankle injury.
Bob knowing how much Banana means to you there's only one person I'd entrust this job to - Terry at TSAutos.

He's no doubt the most cost effective too, but it's his knowledge and experience that is pretty much priceless.

Hey there,

I once did the opposite conversion on my Maestro Vanden Plas, to convert a 1.6 Automatic to 2.0 Efi Manual. I bought a complete donor vehicle, parked it next to the auto car and then stripped them both down, discarding the auto parts and transferring the manual parts onto my car.

It was a pretty involved job, requiring a swap of:

Engine
Engine/Gearbox Mounts
Gearbox
Full Wiring Loom
Pedal box
Gear selector
Suspension
Exhaust
Fuel system

The entire interior and dash had to be removed from both cars to get the loom out.

Your conversion will be a little easier seeing as the engine will be the same, meaning that the suspension and exhaust/fuel systems don't need to be swapped. You will probably need either to swap the wiring looms or at least modify the manual one's loom with parts from the auto.

I also had to notify the DVLA of the change - in my case it was also the engine number that swapped.

It's definitely possible, however, it might be cheaper to find an auto car and have it painted yellow!

I have thought about getting an auto and painting or wrapping it Yellow but it just wouldn’t be the same. I’ll just have to keep working on my exercises to get my ankle strong enough to push the clutch pedal.

But thanks for the tips.

A bit of blue sky thinking here Bob,

We have servo brakes, could a servo clutch be fabricated I wonder.

But as you say, keeping up the exercises may well be the better option.

Hope to see you sometime this year.

Regards

Mike

There is a company that can convert manuals to auto operation, it’s still a manual car but with a clutch actuator. There’s a guy that has classic minis converted, I’ll see if I can find a link
