Its more like what don't I have nesting around here , NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-, Doves, Ducks, Moorhens (weird raised nest type thing) then in the Oaks just over my fence at the bootom of my field we have Crows Herons and some form of Bird of Prey which really surprises me that they are nesting so closely
Oddly though this year I have not seen a single Barn Owl and we had three doing the rounds at dusk last year Also I have decided all Robins and Wrens are mental, they build nests in the most stupid of places I have a clip of some Wrens in a nest above where I keep the tractor and will see if I can upload it somewhere later on. And then there are these things! One Queen Wasp made this and it conatained six grubs if I had left it there it would have become huge |

I had one of those cursed things in my loft. I didn't realise it was there til the house became infested with wasps one day. The nest was literally the size of a bin liner.
Half a bottle of wasp killer (blown in using a 15mm copper pipe) sorted the little swines out though. They went a bit mental for an hour or two then they all dropped dead. |

I am a bit sensitive to what gets in the Loft
Two weeks after moving here we had half a Dozen Rats get in. Killing them was easy but it took ages to get rid of the smell. Nasty things rats, now I have an Air Rifle and between me and the Spotty dog they are not a problem anymore in fact I have not seen one for months now They are probably not far away but they keep away from us! Or they are planning.................................. |

Of course, with all the riff-raff, 'pay-as-you-throw", rubbish-tax evaders flytipping over hedgerows, the need for anti-rat measures will increase....

You could always try one of those ultra-sonic rat repeller thingies Keith.

'I had one of those cursed things in my loft'
Yep, wasps are a real nuisance and remember, they never use the same nest for more than a year. Came across one at work (I'm an Environmental Health Officer) which took up the eaves area of a loft (approx 10' long) and was gob-smacked at how intricate it all was. That was in the winter when they're dormant and the nest empty - the home owner didn't want an even bigger one the following year! Useful fact: Wasps can't fly in the dark. If you're in the loft and they start buzzing, check your footing, switch off the light and get outta there! Come back with some spray later! The pipe to spray insecticide inside the nest is a good approach!! Steve |

My little Blue NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- have now upped their average feed rate to one round trip every 2.5 minutes. That's an awesome 384 round trips per day!! The poor mum & dad must be completely knackered.
I've looked up the flying speed of these birds and it's 17mph. So when these two exit the nest, they're accelerating from nought to 17mph in less than a second. You can't help but admire them. If anything tries to have a go at them or their chicks, I will personally clobber it. PS. A Peregrine Falcon's maximum speed in a dive is 190mph - NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- hell!! Last edited by Simon W; 25th May 2007 at 22:46.. |

One of my favourite cycle tracks runs through disused quarries and there are peregrines nesting there....there are hides and vantage points for the twitchers near the site too...only problem was the pigeon fanciers who poisoned the peregrines as they were preying on the prize racers....strange breed bird fanciers...but then they'd say the same about 75/ZT owners....
