I'm not prejudiced against them - never met a "bad" French person, but as a nation they are dispicanble!! View recent histrory, let alone Agincourt!!

We can't hold Agincourt against them, we won didn't we! History is not my thing really, we should ask Windrush, he was probably there

Default French carols

Sorry to put the cat among the pigeons, but I think you'll find that while we have adopted at least fifteen good French tunes (including 'Angels from the realms of glory', the second tune to 'Away in a manger' [see Carols for Choirs], 'Ding dong! Merrily on high', the 'Shepherds' Farewell', 'Quittez pasteurs', 'Gabriel's Message', 'Masters in this Hall', 'O come, o come Emmanuel', 'Quelle est cette odeur', etc., etc., etc.), the French cannot match this record. They enjoy singing some of the more popular English carols, but have not 'adopted' anything like that number in the same way, that is to say by adapting them to French texts. Our musical debt to the continent in general, and to France in particular, extends much further than Xmas carols, and cannot be too highly emphasised. Cultural osmosis between Welsh and Breton melodies is another matter.

Geoffrey.
