Add to those the habitual and miserably failure of far too many modern drivers to dip their powerful headlights before you have been totally blinded ... that is if they bother to dip them at all now. It did not used to be like that. Indeed, it was almost an unwritten law or competition even to dip before the approaching driver did.

This is something I still do but I’ve noticed many don’t bother now preferring to blind you as they appear either over a hill or from around a bend in the road then after they’ve blinded you they dip their lights

Just a couple
Introduce a medical for drivers over 70 similar to the one taken by hgv drivers over the age of 45.
All company vehicles including vans and cars to have equipment fitted to record driving time, to ensure proper breaks etc.

I wound my window down, gave a friendy wave and tooted the horn. No response. I tried again and when they looked I motioned to wind the window down, nothing other than the bloke looking p***ed off and shaking his head "no".
I was loosing patience so I then shouted "You haven't put your lights on", slowly the penny dropped and then a faint wave of acknowledgement and he switched them on.
I thought his Mrs might wind the window down and thank me, pigs might!

I wish I hadn't bothered, let them get pulled in next time if that's their attitude.

I think the problem with driving with front drl's only at night/poor visibility is down to digital dashboards. They appear illuminated as on an older, car which signified lights are on, normally head lights but could be side lights.

Nearly as bad are the ones who dip their lights OK, but flick back onto main beam before they have passed you

Graded driving tests.

Maybe A,B,C, and D.

With these plates on the cars.

The higher the grade you achieve the faster you are allowed to drive.

Number plate recognition to impose instant fines on those driving faster than their grade.

If it made drivers ashamed to drive with a low grade on their cars it would make them learn a bit more and thus become less dangerous in their driving.

Grade A-----40mph.

Grade B------50mph.

Grade C------60mph

Grade D------70mph.

Bit of a status symbol over the neighbours.---

Default Traffic laws

Maybe if we could get some cyclists to abide by existing traffic laws then that'd be a start? (Note I am not tarring all with the same brush but see too many going through red traffic lights etc., etc.)

I helped a mate out with his taxi company for a while. One job was kids to a couple of schools in central Edinburgh. Needed 360° vision, cyclists coming at you from all angles. Saw a cyclist knock off his bike one day, 100% his fault, tried to go down the inside of a van that was indicating and turning left! Idiot ranted at the van driver as if it was his fault
