Which is what I said back at the start. Yes you need to be aware of the need to have procedures and disciplinary procedures to protect the organisation, the employees and the volunteers but that is not an excuse for bad man management which winds good people up and causes them to walk away. The fact that this ended up as a news story is pretty good evidence that the managers made a right old mess of it.
It is possible to argue that there are lots of spheres of life where legislation and other practices have merely been used by unimaginative or just plain stupid managers to hide behind. It isn't child protection legislation, it isn't health and safety legislation and it certainly isn't political correctness which is to blame. It is witless people who have been given positions of responsibility who cannot cope using them as an excuse. The other problem is that it makes a good story so the hacks have their angle. |
