If it were a member of the general public they would be receiving a medal for bravery.

Absolute lunacy, this man made a on the spot decision to put his safety last and is penalised for it, I dare say if it was a member of MCA hanging by their fingertips it would be a different story and a different set of rules applied.

Daft decision and they've taken a year to make it causing extra stress and uncertainty for the guy involved - no wonder he's leaving.

In 2007, one of the Royal Shakespeare Company's actors rescued a girl who'd fainted and fallen onto the tracks at Clapham Common tube station. She landed head first and was completely stuck.

There was a train coming in so he jumped down and dragged her back onto the platform.

I suppose the MCA loonies would have expected him to leave here where she was.

(He got a Humane Society award).

How stupid. This man is a hero.
I suppose the pathetic penpushing losers would rather she had fallen to her death. What's he supposed to do, carry out a full risk assessment and submit it in writing?

It is not an easy situation and I suspect that it has been handled in a very cack handed manner by the MCA. The MCA cannot be seen to allow a situation such as this to go unchallenged. As their quote quite rightly suggests they are not in the business of creating dead heroes. The story would have been very different had it gone the other way and people had ended up dead. It would have been the bods at the MCA who would have had to be standing in the dock answering questions about why procedure wasn't followed. Was the training given adequate? Why were they putting volunteers in a position where they can be killed or injured? Those with their red top slogans about heroes aren't the ones who would be defending themselves in court.

All that said it is possible to deal with situations such as this where everyone can save face, people can be congratulated for bravery and also be told in the nicest possible way not to do it again.

The "PC" brigade have a lot to answer for. One day there day WILL come and someone will sit back and do nothing and unfortunately have to live with that decision

I've saved two lives heart attack & a stabbing and would do it again despite getting reported for the stabbing one

This is nothing to do with whatever may be meant by PC and it (unfortunately) has little to do with health and safety.

You can guarantee that if anyone had died during the rescue someone, somewhere would have smelled the possibility of a claim against the MCA. Where it is possible for the MCA to demonstrate their man did everything according to accepted procedure then there is no problem. However, if it could be shown that procedure was not followed then there is hope of pinning something on them.

Again. Ask yourself what would have happened if someone had died and the MCA bod had not followed procedure? There is a good chance he could have been looking at defending a private prosecution from the dead girl's family. It's his fault because he didn't follow procedure.
