Default Heavy clutch on 75 diesel.

The clutch on my 2001 Rover 75 Diesel is getting quite heavy, there is a rumble now when I press the pedal down, so it looks like the release bearing is on it's way.
It's on the original clutch at 119 thousand so can't complain !
So as I am going to get it replaced what is the best options in makes of clutch plates and slave cylinders to get the lightest pedal ?
Also I have read conflicting advice on as to renewing the Dual Mass Flywheel or not.
Any advice much appreciated.
Regards,
Phil.

I've got the exact same problem with my 2.0 cdti. I'm saving up to get it done. Apparently getting on for a 6 hour job? Anyway. I'm having the DMF, and clutch including concentric slave replaced. I'd rather not need it having to come to bits again a year down the line if the DMF starts to fail.

Just my opinion. I know there will be plenty of others.

Borg and Beck/LUK clutch plates and slave cylinder are the favoured makes on the site - as to the DMF on our cars they have a reputation of being robust so do you need to change it?

you are caught between devil and deep blue sea. Replacement slaves and masters seem to vary in how long they last. Whilst no doubt yours will fail there is no guarantee that replacing them now will mean you don't need to have them replaced again and no guarantee they will out last your existing but one would expect them too

Two part clutch kit as per original manufacturer LINK

And if I'm not mistaken, this looks to be identical to the original slave cylinder.......LINK

I fitted a "genuine" three part clutch kit in December 2018 along with a new DMF, have covered 24,000 miles, and although still light, I have occasional clutch judder.

This is the problem, there is scant quality control in the sourcing of "genuine" parts, this has deteriorated since the sale of XPart from Neovia Logistics, to their new parent company Leacy Classics, who appear to think cheapest is best, coupled with selling at the highest price the market will stand.

Take your pick, I won't recommend any hydraulic parts made in China, and you can guess where the "genuine" part is from.

Given that, if you wish to take the risk on parts of this type, you can buy an unbranded slave for £30 HERE or go for an LUK slave for £43 HERE

Borg and Beck, sadly are nothing more than a label on a box these days, especially the stuff being currently sold.

Best of luck

Brian

I bought a brand new Borg and Beck clutch for my wifes Rover 25.
All looked good, looked genuine ( I bought it off ebay )
But, the damn thing has juddered since day one!

When I'm feeling more energetic I'll remove the 'box and fit a LUK.

It'll be a LUK unit that gets fitted in my ZT, but I wont be doing that, I'm going to leave that to someone without a bad back!

Thanks for the post Brian, very timely as I need to get a slave cylinder, due to a whiney gearbox.

Can I just check, the motaquip part will fit the diesel? It only lists the petrol variants.
And are you suggesting that you would fit this rather than the Luk option?
Thanks
Chris
