Default It only gets worse!

It never rains it pours!

Got the tourer back from the garage today with it's new crankshaft pulley (£82.50 labour) and set about sorting the issues. https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...=292950&page=5

No.1 Sorted the brake vacuum pipe Thanks Arctic for your excellent threads.

No.2 Suspension problems.
Jacked the car up and got it on axle stands ready to tackle the front arb bushes and drop links. Purchased grease, found syringe in printer ink cartridge refill set, a bit thin but never mind, warm the grease up.

Removed front wheels, nearside spring was in 3 pieces
Not much point fitting the tyre protector.

Not much point undoing all the anti roll bar either.

Then my Aunt and Uncle arrived for a chat and with a birthday card for tomorrow

Then I had to get my daughter from school, then make tea and take her to dance practice, Mrs Andy has gone to London to see a show, alright for some!
While shes dancing had a look for springs, looking at £45 each not sure of brand though

No.3 Add that to the list of things to do. I assume it's a right (or left) ball ache to do. Especially as the lower strut pinch bolt on that side is jammed, it needs to be drilled out.

Unfortunately I've also got a Zafira with a really whiny 5th and 6th gear, bearings are going/gone, M32 box notorious for it. Don't think it's got many miles left. Had two quotes so far and wait for it ….

… £1795 and £2064

What to do

I've not checked my premium bonds yet this month so here's hoping.....

I didn't win anything

re: Zafira
Because the clutch and fly wheel are both 70k miles ( I have a receipt from the previous owner), both garages recommend to change the clutch, dmf, accessories etc at the same time.

Quote 1 : NO breakdown but £1795 total.
Using LUK clutch kit and fitting a replacement Ivor Searle box.

After my sharp intake of breath, He did say that if I provided a 2nd hand box, they would fit it for £300 labour only. Recommend only as a get it running to sell it option

Quote 2 : £2064
Recon gearbox £850 & labour £275 + vat = £1350
Clutch kit £235 + DMF kit £300 + vat = £678

They will have my box reconditioned locally. And wouldn't charge any more labour to change the clutch if required.

I understand the principle of replacing the lot but it is adding about £800 to the job. Nobody really has any idea how much clutch is left I can't see the point if it is only 50-60% worn.

Back to Rover, Garage 2 above have just done the crank pully and when I spoke to him about the clutch yesterday, I asked for a price for the spring.

About 2.5 hours per spring and £50 ish for the part approx. £180 + vat = about £220 and he wants to do both sides.
Just can't justify another £440 now on this car so I need some springs. Is it totally nesseccary to change both at the same time?

I'm off to work now, then going to buy some 8 mm steel drill bits to remove the pinch bolt

My Mrs has a Peugeot 307 sport and the bearings in her box went so took it to a place here in Coventry and they refurbished the box and changed the bearings for £500. I bought a Valeo clutch for £80 and they fitted it for free. 12 months warrenty and they did a great job.
If you are selling it just get a clutch and forget the DMF.
Would be worth driving up here to get it done and have a fair fee quid left over!

Why not ask one of the traders for a decent complete leg , shock , spring , top mount.
A lot easier to change the whole lot in one go and probably about the same price as a spring.
Then you can refurbish the old one at your leisure.

this included a new DMF clutch , labour etc
