I remember watching an interview with Donald Sinden where he admitted that he couldn't swim while making the film. Every time you see him swimming there is a stuntman under the water with Donald on his back. A lot of the film was shot in a big tank.

Cracking film that does a good job for showing war for what it is and how people were effected by things that happen at sea and at home.
