Following on from Trikey's reply, perhaps the connector is behind the wheelarch liner.

I thought he had traced the wires backwards towards the harness and they were taped up but with out the socket/plug on the end.

Sorry as macafee2 has said there is no plug just black tape and a connection somewhere along the line
