Default Fuel filler flap opens on it's own.

It's locked when I lock the car and when moving but there has been a few times when I get out of the car and find the fuel flap has opened it's self.

Granted, a few times it's done it when I have pulled in to a petrol station to fill up so it's been quite handy but it's not right and will need fixing. I have realised now, I don't have a sentient car that's trying to help me out.

is there supposed to be a spring that keeps it closed unless pushed?

I have tried looking at the blow up diagrams on rimmers but can't see what part it is that may be missing.

I had this problem and it was the banana shaped spring that was missing.
This was not something I could order on its own,it was a part of the fuel flap.

Got a flap on clearance sale at Rimmers, took out the sping, put some coating on it and installed it..Fixed!

I can't see any banana shaped springs in there so that could be the problem. too bad you can't buy just the spring.

I can live with it for now and will have a look for one at the old scrap yard next time i'm there.

Only £6 from rimmers but postage almost doubles it, I'll ask at my local Xpart place can do.

Another thing that can happen is with the filler cap holder. Mine snapped off and disappeared into the tank.--

Nothing seems to have jammed up in there so far I'm pleased to say.---

Don't worry John - probably just detached and is still in one piece laying in the bottom of the tank waiting for to be rescued next time you are in there.

Mine was.
