Default strange hesitation !!! MG ZT 1.8T

just dropped my daughter off at a party and on the way home on a fast road I put my foot down, rev's got too 3600rpm then nothing for a second, just like you turned the ignition off. but after that second it carried on climbing up the rev range. I slowed down and tried it again and the same thing. on the 3rd attempt it pulled right through but ran out of road to try it a 4th time. I don't think its an electrical misfire but could be turbo ????? anyone had a similar thing
