Rover 75 gone bad
Hi guys,
haven't been on lately as I had to sell my 75 to my dad due to a company car - sob sob. Anyway, he's had it a few months and suddenly it lost power so he had to pull in. He selected drive - wouldn't go. then reverse, it went. So he tried drive, yep it went, then reverse again - wouldn't go. The garage thinks it's the gearbox but it's a sealed unit and can't get it open so will have to take it to a specialist. He had problems with the 3rd plenum - i told him about the 2 on the left and right but didn't realise about the third plenum and he got a bit drenched in the passenger cockpit - and then the dredded gear clunk. I hope we have got to clear the 3rd plenum before it did any damage to the ecu. I'm just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience? Could it be the ECU, could it be low transmission fluid or something else. I feel really bad I sold this wonderful car to my dad and he's got this big problem. Cheers guys. Ski.

I had a similar thing on my 827 Sterling auto, and it turned out to be a loss of fluid. Was it an external pipe leaking? It was years ago, but exactly the same symptoms.

If your ECU got wet, then it is quite possible that it is causing gearbox problems, as the ECU and the gearbox computer constantly "talk" to each other..

The solenoid pack can be changed or repaired separately from the box.
To identify the fault correctly you need a diagnostic session on T4 Second hand auto boxes are relatively cheap now |
