Well not mine but Mrs Noc's 75 to be precise - broken down at work.
Tipped out armed with tools and a selection of spares. Car cranking but refusing to start, so checked the oil light came on, no EP on the gear display, looked under the bonnet and very quiet it was too. Gave the UBP a tap and away it went. Total time from call out was about 15 minutes, and from arriving on the scene and getting it going just under a minute. If only all breakdowns were as quick and easy. . . I thought about the dizzles Alternator, went out had a look, thought it a bit chilly so ignored it and came back inside

Washed the building site clarts off, then drove it the 12 miles to the test station, at 70MPH in third gear.
On arrival it was apparent the DVSA inspectorate chap was doing a premises check, it looked to me as if the walls had been very recently repainted and the staff were rehanging the MOT signage. So I relaxed in the warm of the MOT viewing area, had a cup of coffee and watched as Mrs MB's car was subjected to it's annual healthcheck. It passed with an advisory for a slightly worn tyre...........when I questioned this, the reply was "I can't possibly give a fifteen year old car a clean pass with the Ministry man watching" An interesting result, as I know all tyres were perfect, as they along with the lights, seat belts, screen wash and wiper blades are the very minimum I check before presenting a car for test, this one had more than that......I'd been underneath both ends yesterday, the wheels had been off and washed underneath this morning. But a pass is a pass, and the emission test was 0.027 of a maximum 1, so my long suffering wife will not be getting a new car this weekend Brian |

I took the ZT up the road and gave it some beans in sport mode with the Cataclean in this afternoon. No idea if it did any good but I think I scared myself lol! Bought a nice boot tidy for it from Aldi and then did a bit of bling under the bonnet. I can't stop with this car. It's a terrible addiction...

Decided to make a start changing over the carpet in my ZT from Mk2 to Mk1, having had a sunroof leak there was still a slight damp smell and the Mk1 carpet is much better quality. Bit daunting at first taking the interior apart but actually not that bad and didn't take as long as I thought it would. I had expected the carpet to still be wet but seemed dry.
Whilst at it, decided to fit the modified handbrake compensator that I had assembled. Think it was needed as this was how it had been adjusted (I had backed the adjuster nut off in the pic) Tomorrow I will start putting it back together as I was defeated by the weather. |

Took the wife and daughter to the station this morning in the rain felt the low speed ABS crunch but thought it's the wet, went to pick them up at midnight more crunching then ABS light comes on so will put it on TOAF tomorrow to see what it says, hopefully rear wheel bearing as I've got a spare

Replaced the bottom mounting bolts on the rear shocks as i thought this might be the source of the constant knocking from the rear. It wasnt. Ho hum, will keep trying to locate this annoyance!!

What I did with my Rover 75/MG ZT today?
Thinking about wintering my car as im still waiting for the bodyshop im using to do my sill.(im not prepared to use just anybody and they are very busy cos they`re good)
Also found a brake pipe has a leak. The MOT is due in dec and i don`t want to do any work in the winter. |

Swapped the handbrake compensator for the mini version, I have been putting this off for years on all the various rovers I've had but this was actually a doddle to do I left the seats in and followed artics how to, few cuts on the hands but did it in a leisurely couple of hours including adjusting at the rear wheels.

The leak is somewhere round there.
its definately the brake as im having to top up twice and its wet on the underside of the car. Last edited by 190+; 27th October 2019 at 12:52.. |
