Default what is this please

on the 75 diesel rngine what is the flexible hose that rises from under the engine cover and rests just in front of the batterry

it ends in the shape of a bicycle handle bar rubber

what is its purpose in life

it sounds like the air intake from the fuel burning heater

Ho,don't worry,

It is the air intake of your Fuel Burner Heater !
Perfectly useless on summer ....

I'll tell you how to test it if you want

YES PLEASE MIKE

can you explain its purpose

the car has failed to start on two occassions

ive checked the fuel pumps changed the filter and cleaned the electrical sensor connections

could this pipe be a cause of non starting

the fbh will not have anythink to do with your starting unless it is runnig down your battery.it only works when the air temp drops to minus 5 .so it should not be running at this time of year unless you live in siberia.when it runs in the winter it warms the car quicker and keeps you nice and warm

As suffolk boy says,nothing to do with starting problems !
see rather ;
-intank pump
-injector leakback

How many miles ?

does it use the same temp gauge as the one that displays outside temp? as mine always shows -30
